Nokia G22: a long-lasting smartphone that you can fix yourself. It takes 5 minutes to replace the battery, 20 minutes for the display

Nokia phones were popular 20 years ago primarily for their durability. These days, HMD Global continues to exploit users' nostalgia: the company has introduced the Nokia G22, a smartphone whose main feature is high repairability.

Here's What We've Seen

According to market research, the main reasons people change their phone are broken screens or failed batteries. Therefore, the Nokia G22 can be repaired at home without going to a service centre. You don't need to heat the back panel to remove it, or use alcohol to remove the battery.

It takes around 5 minutes to replace the battery and 20 minutes for the display. The toolkit is also minimal: a paper clip to remove the SIM card, a pick and a screwdriver. Some additional tools will be required to replace the screen, though. But HMD Global has an agreement with iFixit: they will sell tools, a manual and parts to replace the display, charging port or battery.

As for the basic specs, they're pretty modest: a 6.52-inch HD+ display with 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 3 protection, a Unisoc T606 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB or 128GB ROM and a 5050mAh battery with 20W charging capacity.

The smartphone also has an 8 MP front-facing camera and a triple main camera that consists of a 50 MP sensor, a 2 MP macro lens and a 2 MP depth sensor. The novelty runs Android 12 and the manufacturer promises 2 OS updates and 3 years of security updates.

Here's What It Costs

The Nokia G22 is available from today in blue and grey, for €179 and higher.
