Japanese company Sony this morning announced the world's first smartphone equipped with a primary camera with an optical 1" image sensor. The new product is called Sony Xperia Pro-I.

What's new

Most of the technical characteristics are taken over from the flagship Sony Xperia 1 III, which was introduced in spring and went on sale in late summer. The novelty too gets a Snapdragon 888 mobile processor, 8MP front-facing camera, 6.5" AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, stereo speakers, Mini-Jack, IP65/IP68 protection, side biometric sensor, Gorilla Glass Victus / Gorilla Glass 6 body and a 4500 mA*h battery.

The key differences relate the main camera. Ultra-wide-angle module did not change - 12 MP (1/2.55"), f/2.2, angle of 124 degrees. They have left also 3D ToF camera. The telephoto lens has 12 MP resolution too, but the optical zoom has been reduced to 2x.

The main module is built on the basis of a new 12-megapixel image sensor with an optical format of 1" with pixels of 2.4 microns. The lens aperture is f/2 + f/4. According to the manufacturer, Sony Xperia Pro-I does an excellent job of shooting in low light.

The company said it supports professional-level auto focus Real-time Eye, which can recognize both people and animals in the frame. The 315 dots cover about 90 percent of the image sensor area. At the end, in addition to the shutter button, there is a circular key, which activates the recording of video. By the way, there is support for filming in 4K at 120 FPS.

Price

Sony Xperia Pro-I is available only with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal flash storage. The manufacturer's recommended price is $1,799. Sales of the smartphone will start before the end of 2021, and pre-orders will open on October 28. Users will be able to purchase the Vlog Monitor accessory for $199, while the leather case will cost $89.
