Sony Xperia 1 V - Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 52 MP camera, 120Hz 4K OLED display and IP68 protection from €1,399
Sony has announced its first flagship smartphone in 2023. Expectedly, the model is called the Sony Xperia 1 V.
Here's What We Know
The smartphone features a display that the company calls 21:9 4K OLED. But it should be noted that the resolution is 3840 x 1680 pixels. The panel is 6.5", has a refresh rate of 120Hz and is protected by Gorilla Glass Vicuts 2.
The rear panel too has Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass. The frame is made of metal. The body of the smartphone has IP68 water protection, just like the flagship models of previous generations.
At the heart of the Sony Xperia 1 V is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, complemented by 12GB of RAM. Now the novelty is available with 256GB of storage, but a 512GB version is expected in the future.
The smartphone is equipped with an unusual 52 MP Exmor T sensor. It has an optical format of 1/1.35" and an aspect ratio of 4.3 to 3. The effective resolution is 48 MP. The aperture ratio of the optics is f/1.9. According to the manufacturer, the image sensor can capture more light compared to past generations of sensors.
Many may be pleased with the abandonment of the ToF 3D sensor. There are now only three universal modules on the back of the flagship. The main camera is accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle module and a telephoto lens. Both have a resolution of 12 MP each.
The telephoto lens has an equivalent focal length of 85-125 mm. The Sony Xperia 1 V also has Zeiss T* optics, supports 4K UHD video recording at 120 FPS and can shoot in RAW format.
The battery capacity is 5,000mAh and the wired and wireless charging capacity is 30W each. The Sony Xperia 1 V comes with NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, stereo speakers, a headphone jack and a 12MP selfie camera. The software platform is the Android 13 operating system.
Price & When We Can Expect It
The smartphone will go on sale at the end of June 2023 in black, green and silver colours. The Sony Xperia 1 V in the 12/256GB variant is priced at €1399 / £1299. The price in the US will be announced later.
