Boeing receives $439 million for a new military satellite

The US Space Force has signed a $439.6 million contract with the private company Boeing to build the WGS-12 military communications satellite.

Here's What We Know

The new WGS-12 will be the 12th satellite of the Wideband Global Satcom system, which provides communications to the United States and its allies. According to the contract, the satellite should be delivered in January 2029.

However, it is worth noting that the company is currently just completing the production of WGS-11 under a $605 million contract signed in 2019. Boeing said it plans to deliver the satellite in 2024.

Flashback

The Wideband Global Satcom programme is a system of military communications satellites operated by the US Space Force. There are a total of 10 WGS in operation in geostationary orbit today.
