After losing thousands of tanks in Ukraine, Russia has resumed production of GTE-1250 engines after 30 years and is preparing to produce T-80s

The Russians have started producing engines for T-80 tanks. This is reported by the Russian propaganda media.

Here's What We Know

The Kaluga engine plant was ordered to resume production of gas turbine engines GTD-1250 with a capacity of 1,250 horsepower. The production of power units on the basis of this enterprise was established in the times of the USSR, but stopped about 30 years ago.

The resumption of engine production is a step towards the resumption of production of T-80 tanks. The relevant information was first voiced by Russian propagandists a few weeks ago.

For about 20 years, the Kaluga engine plant was in decline. However, the enterprise was modernised in 2017, when the T-80BVM appeared. The Omsktransmash armoured vehicle plant will produce the tanks.

According to Oryx analysts, the Russian army has lost more than 2,300 tanks in the war against Ukraine in 19 months. About a fourth of them are T-80s in various modifications, including over a hundred modernised T-80BVMs.
