GA-ASI tested an upgraded version of the MQ-9A Reaper drone

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) tested the MQ-9A Multi-Domain Operations (M2DO) drone for the first time. The tests took place in the fall of 2022, but we are only finding out about them now.

Here's What We Know

First, let's note that the MQ-9A M2DO is an upgraded version of the Block 5 level MQ-9A Reaper drone. Our hero is also known as "-25." It is equipped with a set of advanced sensors that can expand the strategic reconnaissance capabilities of the MQ-9A Reaper.

On November 10, 2022, the MQ-9A M2DO production prototype made its first-ever flight. GA-ASI will deliver upgraded versions of the MQ-9A Reaper Block 5 "-25" with the M2DO system to the U.S. Armed Forces and Marine Corps. However, the number is not specified.

The American manufacturer is now engaged in the development of several more variants of the MQ-9. In particular, last year GA-ASI began work on a modification of the drone with a short takeoff and landing. The software has already been tested by the U.S. Air National Guard.

Late last year, GA-ASI General Atomics tests MQ-9A Reaper drone with NATO Pod payload container for the first time payload container for the first time. The company is also working with Hughes Network Systems and SES to provide the MQ-9B SkyGuardian with satellite communications.
