Drones can fly forever - Chinese scientists test laser-powered drone

Researchers at Northwestern Polytechnic University in China have tested an unmanned aerial vehicle that is powered by a laser machine. This allows it to fly forever.

Here's What We Know

The technology opens up new possibilities for first responders. Naturally, such a development should interest the military. The researchers themselves believe that their technology will be used for traffic control, patrolling and agriculture, and in the future it will make it possible to suspend an artificial moon. But these are just dreams for now.

Chinese specialists have developed a smart system for visual monitoring of an unmanned aerial vehicle in the air. It works at any time of day and night, regardless of weather conditions.

The tracking system engages a laser beam that transmits control signals to the UAV. Tests took place indoors and outdoors. Developers conducted tests during the day and at night. They were able to prove that the algorithm always accurately detected the drone and increased its stability.

According to the Chinese experts, the drone, which is powered by a laser, can rise to the "height of a skyscraper". However, they chose not to disclose the exact distance at which the system was tested.
