Germany procures 60 LUNA NG drones and 24 ground control stations at a cost of $310 million

The German Armed Forces will receive LUNA New Generation (NG) unmanned aerial vehicles. The budget committee of the Bundestag approved the purchase.

Here's What We Know

Germany has allocated nearly $310 million to purchase 12 unmanned aerial systems from Rheinmetall. Each complex consists of five drones, two ground control stations, two launchers and additional equipment.

The LUNA NG can climb to an altitude of up to 5,000 metres, has a range of 100 km and is capable of real-time data transmission. The 40kg drone can stay in the air for 12 hours.

One of the features is the ability to carry small drones. In the spring of 2023, tests took place in which eight Israeli Hero-R kamikaze drones were able to be deployed aboard the LUNA NG.
