Rumour: Lenovo to close Legion range of gaming smartphones

According to media reports, Lenovo has decided to completely shut down its gaming smartphone division and consequently its Legion product series.

Here's What We Know

This was reported by a Lenovo employee in the Chinese working community Maimai, but the company itself has yet to confirm or deny the information.

Many former employees have also reported that they have been laid off. More specifically, some have lost their jobs at Lenovo and some have been reassigned to other divisions - such as the tablet division. According to preliminary reports, between 50 and 100 employees are expected to be laid off.

Lenovo seems to have failed to cope with the competition in the smartphone market and has therefore been forced to close the Legion series. The current high-end gadgets have high performance, so the need for a dedicated gaming phone is slowly disappearing.

The company's last released gaming smartphone was the Lenovo Legion Y70, which debuted in August last year.
