Ukrainian Military: Launch of one HIMARS missile costs $150,000, and a full launch costs $1,000,000
Alexander Ganushchin, captain of the 103rd Brigade of Territorial Defense Forces, told the national TV marathon how much it costs to launch HIMARS missiles.
What we know
He noted that U.S. multiple-launch rocket systems are not used to destroy single enemy MLRS. The HIMARS has more than 40 elements that can engage enemy targets on their own. The cost per missile is $150 ,000, and a full launch is $1,000,000. Alexander Ganushchin noted that the United States performed 5,900 launches during the military campaign in Iraq. If Wikipedia is to be believed, the price of the HIMARS MLRS is more than $5,000,000.
Captain stated that the main advantage of the Russian forces is not the availability of more rocket systems, but a significant advantage in ammunition (7-10 times). That is why HIMARS is used to disrupt the logistics chain.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively using U.S. MLRS to destroy ammunition depots. During two weeks of use HIMARS more than two dozen depots in the temporarily occupied territory were destroyed.
