The M270 MLRS is one of several Western multiple rocket launchers that have arrived in Ukraine. It is almost never seen on video, and here the Armed Forces showed a rare video of the system's combat operation.

Here's What We Know

The Ukrainian M270 MLRS uses GMLRS rockets with a maximum range of 84 km. The launcher consists of two containers for six shells. The MLRS is built on a Bradley tracked chassis, and as such cannot boast a high level of mobility.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces received six M270 MLRS systems. All of them arrived from Great Britain. The European version of M270 MLRS is called MARS II. Germany, Italy and France took part in its development. It features a new fire control system called the European Fire Control System (EFCS), which was developed by Airbus.

Five MARS II systems arrived to Ukraine from Germany. This multiple launch rocket system cannot use M26, M26A1 and M30 cluster munitions. Such a step had to be taken to ensure compliance with the Convention on Cluster Munitions. The M270 MLRS is not covered because the United States has not signed the convention.
