A Chinese J-11 fighter executed a dangerous maneuver and almost collided with an American RC-135 Rivet Joint warplane

The U.S. Department of Defense published a video showing how a Chinese fighter jet nearly collided with an American reconnaissance aircraft. The incident took place on December 21 over the South China Sea.

Here's What We Know

A J-11 fighter jet of the Chinese Navy flew within 6 meters of a U.S. RC-135 Rivet Joint. Then it positioned itself in front of the nose of the plane at a distance of 12 meters. As a result, the pilot of the Rivet Joint was forced to perform evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision.

The American command said that the RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft was conducting "routine operations" over the South China Sea. It was legally in international airspace. The Chinese side refrained from commenting.
