Germany has ordered an additional batch of 227 BvS10 all-terrain vehicles worth $400 million
Last December, Britain, Germany and Sweden signed a joint deal to acquire BvS10 armoured all-terrain vehicles. A few months later, Germany decided to increase the order.
Here's What We Know
The German armed forces have signed a framework contract with BAE Systems to buy 227 more all-terrain vehicles. The deal amounted to $400. Last year, Britain, Germany and Sweden collectively bought 436 BvS10s worth $760m:
- Germany - 140 units;
- Sweden - 236 units;
- UK - 60 units.
The manufacturer of the all-terrain vehicles is BAE Systems Hägglunds, a Swedish subsidiary of BAE. The plant is located on the east coast of Sweden in the Baltic Sea. Deliveries of the BvS10 to Germany will start in 2024 and continue until the end of the decade.
The armoured rover measures 7.55 x 2.1 x 2.2 mm and weighs 10.6 tonnes. Armament is comprised of smoke grenades and one 7.62mm / 12.7mm machine gun. The BvS10 is powered by a 275 horsepower engine and can reach a speed of 65 km/h on the highway.
The all-terrain vehicle is designed to operate in harsh conditions, including snow, rocks, sand, mud and mountainous terrain. In addition, the BvS10 can swim in shallow water at a speed of up to 5 km/h. It has a cruising range of 300 km.
