Germany may give Ukraine fighter jets, but will not supply long-range TAURUS cruise missiles

Ukraine will be left without TAURUS cruise missiles with a maximum launch range of over 500 km. At the same time, the Armed Forces have hope for German fighter jets.

Here's What We Know

Germany intends to rethink its position on potential deliveries of fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Previously, German authorities ruled out such a possibility.

Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said that the government is now comparing opportunities and desires. According to him, a decision regarding the delivery of the planes will be made within two weeks.

The Luftwaffe now has over a hundred Eurofighter Typhoons and several dozen Tornado fighter-bombers of the fourth generation. Germany ordered 35 fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II aircraft last year at a cost of nearly $9 billion, and Europe's sixth-generation fighter will be available in more than 10 years.

As for the TAURUS cruise missiles, Ukraine made an official request late last month. The other day, Boris Pistorius said that the Ministry of Defence had discussed the issue. However, in a conversation with DW journalists today, 5 June, he ruled out the supply of long-range missiles.
