Not just Apple: Google is also working on an AR headset codenamed Project Iris

We have repeatedly heard that Bloomberg: Apple AR/VR headset could be delayed until 2023 due to overheating, camera and software issues, which will most likely be presented next year. But now it turns out that Google is also working on a similar project.

What will it be?

According to The Verge, this is an augmented reality headset, which, according to sources, looks like ski goggles. The code name of the device is Project Iris, and about 300 people are working on it under the guidance of Vice President Google by Clay Bayvor. By the way, before that he oversaw other Google projects - for example, Google Lens, ARCore and Project Starline.

Project Iris is reportedly a wireless headset that uses external cameras to send an augmented image of the real world to the user. She will receive a proprietary processor (most likely, something like Tensor) and will run on Android, although the operating system may change in the future.

Google plans to release the device in 2024.
