Apple has shared a new support document that outlines what to do if your Pro Display XDR or MacBook Pro 2021 has limited screen brightness.
Why and what to do about it?
As the manufacturer explains, a MacBook Pro with a Liquid Retina XDR or Pro Display XDR display may display a symbol that warns that the screen is overheating. In this case, the system will automatically limit the brightness and put the display into low power mode.
This situation may occur if the ambient temperature in the room is high and very bright content is displayed on the screen for a long time, for example, HDR video.

Apple also offers a plan of action in case of such a problem. So, you need to close all applications that can consume significant system resources, and windows with HDR content, lower the room temperature, and put your Mac to sleep. After 5–10 minutes, it will cool down and be ready for work again.
But users who constantly encounter this problem when the ambient temperature in the room is below 25 degrees are advised to contact Apple support.
