The Russians sued Sony: they demand the return of access to games on the PlayStation, and also 280 million rubles in compensation

Russians continue to increasingly feel the consequences of the sanctions imposed against the aggressor country due to the invasion of Ukraine. This time, the owners of the PlayStation game consoles are outraged. Yes, they are so outraged that they filed a class action lawsuit.

What does it mean?

According to Russian media, the Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow has registered a class action lawsuit against Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited (the European division of Sony) and the Moscow office of the company. The lawsuit lists 28 names of the plaintiffs.

All of them demand the return of access to the PlayStation Store and the ability to buy games for the PlayStation. Moreover, the plaintiffs swung at compensation: they estimated their moral damage at 280 million rubles, or 10 million per person.

The lawsuit states that the terms of use of Sony programs and Russian legislation do not provide for a refusal to provide a service “in connection with the domestic and foreign policy of the state of location and residence of users”, and the company’s unilateral refusal violates the rights of users of game consoles and services.

Recall, in early March, Sony officially announced that it was stopping the supply of game consoles to the country and closing the PlayStation Store in Russia. That is, Russian users can no longer buy new games and pay for subscriptions.
