Rolls-Royce and Safran signed a contract with MBDA: the companies will work together to develop an engine for the FC/ASW anti-ship missile
Rolls-Royce and Safran have signed a contract to collaborate with munitions manufacturer MBDA.
What we know
Rolls-Royce and Safran will produce the propulsion system for the next-generation FC/ASW (Future Cruise/Anti-Ship Weapon) supersonic anti-ship missile.
"We are very pleased to welcome Rolls-Royce and Safran Power Units to our team. Their combined expertise will be essential to the success of the FC/ASW concept, further strengthening the advantages of British and French cooperation in this program," said MBDA CEO Eric Bérenger (Eric Bérenger).
For those who do not know
FC/ASW is a Franco-British program to develop a supersonic cruise missile. It is being produced by MBDA on behalf of the UK Royal Navy and the French Navy. The missile was first unveiled in 2011 at the Le Bourget International Air Show. The FC/ASW is being developed as a replacement for anti-ship missiles Harpoon, Exocet, and air-to-ground missiles Storm Shadow.
