Some iPhone 14 rear camera lenses have ‘quality issues' according to Kuo

Analysts have noted that some of Apple's memory and panel manufacturers are running out of components, which should have a "minimal impact" on iPhone 14 shipments this fall. According to a new research by Kuo, Apple may once again need to switch suppliers because certain rear camera lenses for the iPhone 14 have been producing "low-quality defects."

According to a tech analyst on Twitter, some of the camera lenses provided by Genius "had coating-crack quality issues." According to Kuo, Apple has already sent an order of about 10 million units of lenses from Genius to Largan, another Taiwanese lens-focused firm, in order to avoid significant delays in iPhone 14 manufacturing.

Despite these problems, Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that Largan is capable of fulfilling the supply gap. Based on its prior knowledge, Genius should take up to two months to repair the coating-crack faults in its lenses. If this takes longer than anticipated, Largan will remain the primary supplier of iPhone 14 lens for now.

With that in mind, it appears unlikely that this problem will cause Apple to postpone the launch of the iPhone 14. However, if the device is available in limited quantities, it won't come as a surprise. It's worth noting that months before an item's official release, Apple places orders for components, giving it time to address issues like this.

On the other hand, Apple has added another component supplier to its list for iPhone 14 Pro models, according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. SG Micro's integrated circuits have completed Apple's quality certification, suggesting that the firm has a "plan B" in case of big delays in iPhone 14 deliveries.

Apple is expected to release four new iPhone models this year. The only models with a higher CPU and a different screen design that includes a pill-shaped cutout instead of a notch will be the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This year's Pro variants are also rumored to get an improved 48-megapixel wide lens with support for 8K video shooting. With a larger f/1.9 aperture, upgraded autofocus for better low-light performance, and bigger front-facing camera, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have the most significant upgrade in years when it comes to front cameras.

For the standard iPhone 14 models, they should be mostly based on the current iPhone 13 design with minor camera upgrades, bigger batteries, and 6GB of RAM rather than 4GB. The replacement of the "mini" model with a new 6.7-inch display "iPhone 14 Max" will be the most significant upgrade for this year's mid-range lineup. Apple is anticipated to debut iPhone 14 in September.
