Microsoft launched a new version of Outlook with a redesigned look and several new features

Microsoft began distributing a new version of its Outlook e-mail client this week.

Here's What We Know

The new version of the program will bring the look and feel closer to its web version. The update has been in development for the past few months.

"Since the last beta, we've received a lot of helpful feedback from Office insiders on how to create a more consistent, more functional experience," says Margie Clinton, product group manager on the Outlook team. "We've listened to the feedback since May, and our team has been working hard to improve the new Outlook for Windows."

The new version of the e-mail client, in particular, now supports personal Outloo.com, Hotmail and Windows Live accounts, something previous versions did not. Microsoft has also added a simplified ribbon to improve mail browsing and dynamic calendar column widths.

Office insiders can already access the updated app, and it's coming to the Windows Insider program in the coming weeks.
