SpaceX will launch Starlink Aviation, which will provide satellite Internet access at 350 Mbps on planes

SpaceX is seriously committed to providing access to Starlink satellite Internet for airplane passengers.

Here's What We Know

The company of Elon Musk in 2023 will launch a service called Starlink Aviation, the name speaks for itself. It will be available not only in the United States. Thanks to the new service passengers will be able to access the Internet at speeds of up to 350 Mbit / s.

Although we're talking about speeds for each individual plane and not the passenger, 350 Mbps is a dramatic jump compared to what airlines offer customers now. Most planes now have air-to-ground systems that provide speeds of up to 10 Mbps. The disadvantage of this technology is that Internet access is only available while flying over the ground.

Satellite systems provide data rates of 30-100 Mbps, but are rarely used. In the case of Starlink Aviation, SpaceX promises that the speed of the Internet connection will be enough for video calls and online games. The latency will be up to 20 ms. At the same Starlink Aviation will work during takeoff, in flight, including over water, and landing.

In mid-September it became known that SpaceX has tested the satellite Internet in the plane of the Californian company JSX, which flew from Burbank to San Jose. The data transfer rate during the entire flight was more than 100 Mbit / s. The equipment installed simulated the load on the system from 30 users.
