A great addition to the IRIS-T! Ukraine received NASAMS and Aspide surface-to-air missile systems

After months of anticipation, Ukraine has received a new batch of advanced air defense systems.

Here's What We Know

We are talking about anti-aircraft missile systems NASAMS and Aspide, which will be The AFU destroyed 100% of airborne targets today with the help of the German IRIS-T air defense system. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov in Twitter. The Minister thanked the USA, Norway and Spain for the provided weapons. Unfortunately, Reznikov did not disclose the number of the SAMs, but earlier it was said about two NASAMS batteries and one Aspide battery.

Flashback

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destroying maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of the American Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one such battery is about $65 million.

Spada Aspide (aka Skyguard Aspide) is an anti-aircraft missile system, which was jointly developed by Italy and Switzerland. It uses medium-range guided missiles to defeat air targets. The missiles are manufactured by the Selenia company. It includes anti-aircraft guided missiles and air-to-air missiles. In 1988 the Aspide Mk.1 was adopted by the Italian Air Force. The missile design is based on the American RIM-7E Sea Sparrow.
