NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 is much faster and more energy efficient than GeForce RTX 3080 - first reviews of $1199 graphics card published

NVIDIA finally lifted the embargo and allowed dedicated resources to publish reviews of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card.

Here's What We Know

The Ada Lovelace generation model features a 5nm AD103 chip with 9728 stream processors and 76 best trace cores. The RAM capacity is 16 GB (GDDR6X), the frequency is 2.8 GHz and the throughput is 22 GB/s per pin. The total throughput of the gas pedal is 716.8 GB/s. NVIDIA rated the novelty in S1199. Its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 699, has a starting price of $699.

The GeForce RTX 4080 leaves no chance for the Turing generation graphics card. On average, it outperforms its predecessor by half in games at 4K UHD resolution. What's more, the GeForce RTX 4080 is 20% faster than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which is priced at $1999. Our heroine lags behind the $1599 GeForce RTX 4090 by the same 20% on average.

When ray tracing is activated, the GeForce RTX 4080 leaves no chance for either the GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3090 Ti or Radeon RX 6950 XT. And even without DLSS. When DLSS is activated, the graphics card beats even RTX 4090 (without DLSS).

In games and tests on average GeForce RTX 4080 consumes 300W. The maximum power consumption was 371 watts. Separately, we note that the card began to consume 332.1 W when overclocking the GPU, when the frequency stabilized at 2621.5 MHz with a claimed maximum value of 2508 MHz.

In a nutshell, the GeForce RTX 4080 is a good solution for systems that include a 4K UHD monitor. In terms of performance per watt and per dollar, the $1199 video card beats the GeForce RTX 4090. But let's not forget that the RTX 3080 costs $699 and offers a high level of performance as well.
