Apple launched Emergency SOS satellite service on iPhone 14 in the U.S. and Canada

Apple announced the launch of its emergency satellite service. This came four days after the company officially promised to do so by the end of the fall.

Here's What We Know

The Emergency SOS service is available to owners of iPhone 14 smartphones in demo mode. To access it, you need to install the latest version of the iOS operating system.

In demo mode, the user is not connected to Globalstar's satellite and call center. Instead, there is a connection to the server, which answers questions with pre-prepared phrases.

A week earlier, Apple held a presentation of Emergency SOS for journalists. This is reported by one of the employees of Engadget. According to him, the smartphone was able to connect to the satellite after disconnecting from the cellular network and contact the specialists of the call center. It is also noted that the drawback of the service is the low data rate.

The demonstration mode Emergency SOS is available in the United States and Canada. By the end of the year, Apple will launch the service in Germany, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The service will be free for two years.
