The U.S. has established a Space Forces unit in South Korea to monitor China, Russia and North Korea

On December 14, the U.S. military officially opened a U.S. Space Force unit in South Korea.

Here's What We Know

The U.S. Space Force stepped up its activities at the Osan military base near Seoul a few weeks ago. This was due to the fact that North Korea began regularly launching intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

Lieutenant Colonel Joshua McCullion was appointed to head the new unit. He called North Korea "an existential threat that must be contained or, if necessary, eliminated." Note that it takes 60 minutes to get from Seoul to the border with North Korea.

All operations will be conducted at the Osan Air Base. Jung Chang Wook, head of the Korea Defense Study Forum in Seoul, said. He also noted that the U.S. will monitor China and Russia, although the priority is the DPRK, which has threatened to conduct a preemptive strike with nuclear weapons against the United States and South Korea.
