Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with advanced Skynex air defence systems that can shoot down drones and cruise missiles

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive modern German Skynex air defence systems.

Here's What We Know

The Wall Street Journal writes about it, referring to Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger. There are two systems in question. They were ordered for Ukraine by the German government. The approximate cost of the contract is 200,000,000 euros. Deliveries of armaments should start this year.

Skynex is an anti-aircraft self-propelled machine gun manufactured by the German company Rheinmetall. The unit was unveiled in 2021. It has a 35mm Oerlikon Mk3 automatic gun, which has an effective range of 4,000 meters and a rate of fire of 1,000 rounds per minute. In addition, the Skynex is equipped with an X-band tracking radar. It provides an autonomous target acquisition function. This anti-aircraft system is capable of destroying UAVs as well as cruise missiles.
