US issues arrest warrant for Russian Boeing 737-7JU worth more than $25m, owned by rosneft

The US Department of Justice has announced that it has issued a warrant for the arrest of a Russian Boeing 737-7JU aircraft. It belongs to the company Rosneft.

Here's What We Know

The Boeing aircraft is subject to seizure based on a violation of the Export Control Reform Act (ECRA) and the recent sanctions imposed on Russia. This decision was issued by the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

The sanctions provide for expanding export restrictions and transferring aircraft produced in the United States to Russia without a valid license. The cost of the Boeing 737-7JU is estimated at more than $25 million.

The US Department of Justice website indicates that since February 2022, after sanctions took effect, the plane has left Russian territory and returned at least seven times in violation of federal law. The Boeing 737-7JU is currently en route or already in russia.
