South Pasadena police to switch to Tesla Model Y electric cars

The South Pasadena Police Department has decided to switch completely to electric cars.

Here's What We Know

For starters, the city's police department is going to purchase 10 Model Y electric vehicles for patrols. Police Chief Brian Solinsky has stated that officer and citizen safety is the top priority and that electric cars are the safest and fastest option. In addition, it is estimated that the electric fleet will save the police department over $300,000 per vehicle by reducing fuel and maintenance costs over the next ten years. Apart from electric cars, the city police will also purchase Level 3 charging stations.

Flashback

The Tesla Model Y debuted in 2019. The car comes in three trims: base, Long Range and Performance. The electric car has a maximum range of around 530 km. In the Performance version, the Model Y can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. In the U.S. the car costs from $47,240.
