Torghatten has developed and launched the first driverless electric ferry. It is called MF Estelle and has already started operating in Sweden.

Here's What We Know

The first city to start using the MF Estelle was Stockholm. From May 12, Torghatten plans to launch regular services. At the moment, a captain is on the ferry. He monitors the operation of the automatics during the various maneuvers.

MF Estelle is equipped with radar, laser lidar, ultrasonic sonar and cameras. The equipment is designed to steer the ship's course. According to representatives of Torghatten, in case of obstacle detection the ferry has less than 1 second to construct a new route.

Cost of MF Estelle amounts to $1,6 mln. and for one ticket one will have to pay approximately $3. The ferry will be able to carry up to 30 people at a time.
