Xiaomi announced an updated smart home camera Small Square 1S. It looks like the same small cube, but the company promises three improvements compared to the original model of 2016.
The camera received a more powerful Ingenic T20L processor with a frequency of 1 GHz versus a chip at 402 MHz in its predecessor. Xiaomi Small Square 1S also received IR-CUT infrared filter, thanks to which it was possible to increase the sensitivity of the camera in the night mode (although the same 9 meters of distance are stated). The third change is an improved color rendition in the afternoon.
Xiaomi Small Square 1S supports video recording with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (if it is as in the first model, then only 10 frames per second). There is a smoke sensor, plus the camera can send an alarm to the smartphone in case of motion detection or suspiciously loud sounds. Short clips with the recording of these moments can be saved in the "cloud". By default, everything is written to the memory card.
Using the speaker and microphone, the camera provides two-way communication. The stand has a magnet for easy installation on metal surfaces, and a portable battery can act as a power source.
In China Xiaomi Small Square 1S is still the same 99 yuan or about $ 16 at the current rate - in its price range is one of the best solutions. The more advanced model MiJia Smart IP Camera 1080P will cost twice as much, but there the shooting frequency is higher (up to 20 frames per second), and the sensitivity of the zones is supported.
