Updated ASUS ROG gaming laptops at CES 2024

At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, ASUS showed off a host of new devices. This also applies to gaming laptops of the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand. In fact, all current models have received new powerful components and a slightly updated design.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus line is a fairly lightweight and compact gaming laptop with powerful hardware inside. At the same time, they have a stylish and not too aggressive design. The updated ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16 have grey or white aluminium cases. Instead of AniMe Matrix, the top cover now has a diagonal Slash Lighting LED panel. ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 has a 1.59 cm thick body and weighs 1.5 kg. ROG Zephyrus G16 is 1.49 cm, 1.85 kg, which is very good for a gaming model with a 16-inch screen. The updated G14 and G16 are the company's first gaming models with ROG Nebula Display OLED displays. In both cases, the aspect ratio is 16:10. The Zephyrus G14 display has a 3K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Zephyrus G16 has a 2.5K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. There is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, promising a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. There is Hi-Res Audio certification and support for Dolby Atmos virtual surround sound.

Inside the Zephyrus G14, new AMD processors are installed, up to Ryzen 9 8940H in the top configuration. The larger Zephyrus G16 is equipped with Intel Core Ultra 9 185H in the maximum variant. Both models are equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards, up to RTX 4090 in the top configuration.

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 and SCAR 18

Now let's move on to the more classic gaming models that are usually used as a kind of desktop replacement. ROG Strix SCAR 16 and SCAR 18 laptops have 16- and 18-inch displays, respectively. In both cases, it is a Mini LED ROG Nebula HDR with a resolution of 2.5K (2560×1600) and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. The screen-to-panel ratio is said to be 90%. Inside, there are Intel Core i9 14900HX processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 laptop graphics cards. Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal is used as a thermal interface on the CPU and GPU. Three fans are provided for cooling.

The laptop's audio system has four speakers and supports Dolby Atmos. The keyboard and additional decorative elements have RGB backlighting. There is a Thunderbolt 4 connector, a 2.5 Gbps network port and a Wi-Fi 6E wireless module. There is a 90 Wh battery inside, with support for USB-C charging with a capacity of up to 100 Wh. Of course, it's perfect for simple tasks. The case is made of metal, with a ROG logo on the lid with RGB backlighting in the new ROG Slash style.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 and G18

The ROG Strix G16 and G18 laptops have slightly more simple specifications. Inside, there can be processors up to Intel Core i9 14900HX, and the maximum configuration of the video card is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 for laptops. The cooling system is similar to SCAR: Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal, but with the CPU heatsink, three fans, and vents around the perimeter. The models also have 16- and 18-inch displays, but this time with IPS ROG Nebula with a resolution of 2.5K (2560x1600 pixels), a refresh rate of 240 Hz and support for Dolby Vision HDR technology.

The laptops are equipped with large touchpads and keyboards with individual RGB backlighting and large navigation buttons. There is a Thunderbolt 4 port, a gigabit network port, a Wi-Fi 6E module and a 90 Wh battery. USB-C charging (100W) is also supported. Two versions will be available. Both with metal cases. Volt Green has the ROG logo with RGB backlighting and the new ROG Slash design, and Eclipse Gray has the low-profile ROG Slash pattern.

ASUS has not yet announced prices and launch dates.
