Samsung beat Apple to FDA approval for sleep apnea detection feature on the Galaxy Watch

Samsung has just received FDA approval for its sleep apnea detection feature.

Details

Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome is a common pathology associated with an abrupt decrease or complete stop of breathing during a night's rest. Thus, it can lead to poor sleep quality and resulting daytime fatigue. Untreated sleep apnea can exacerbate the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias and stroke.

The Galaxy Watch smartwatch with the Samsung Health Monitor app will now be able to detect this pathology. The company recommends the study to users aged 22 years and older. To detect apnoea, you need to track your sleep of more than 4 hours at least twice.

Samsung promises to launch this feature in the third quarter of this year. That is, both Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 5 can get it.

Incidentally, according to leaks, Apple is working on the exact same feature and plans to add it to the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10.
