The reward is $10 million: US asks for information on Blackcat hackers

The US Department of State is offering a reward of up to $10 million for any information about the Blackcat hacker group that attacked UnitedHealth and prevented the payment of insurance claims.

Here's What We Know

The State Department explained that Blackcat, using the ALPHV ransomware, hacked into computer networks of critical infrastructure sectors in the United States and around the world.

The technical division of the largest insurance company in the United States, UnitedHealth Group, has recently suffered a cyberattack. The losses from the attack exceeded $14 billion, but after the system was restored, the company began to compensate for the losses.

UnitedHealth plays an important role in processing payments from insurance companies to doctors, and the failure caused by the cyberattack left patients and doctors without funds in some cases. The consequences were particularly severe for healthcare centres serving more than 30 million poor and uninsured patients.

Earlier it became known that the company paid the hackers $22 million to restore the systems, but there is no information yet on whether Blackcat has fulfilled part of the agreement.
