Police in the US use GPS darts for safe car chases

In the US, police are implementing a new strategy to combat car chases.

Here's What We Know

The New York Police Department was the first to equip some patrol cars with the StarChase system, which uses darts to install GPS trackers on vehicles.

This technology allows police officers to track the geolocation of suspicious vehicles in real time. Foam darts equipped with GPS trackers are pushed out of patrol cars and attached to vehicles to be tagged. The initiative is being expanded to other states such as Washington, Texas, Michigan and Tennessee, although some have questioned its legality.

The use of this technology could significantly reduce the risk to public safety.
