OpenAI has cancelled the account requirement for using ChatGPT

OpenAI no longer requires you to create an account to access its popular chatbot ChatGPT.

The innovation applies only to the free version of ChatGPT. An account is still required to use other paid OpenAI products like DALL-E 3.

According to the OpenAI blog, the cancellation of the registration requirement is aimed at making the artificial intelligence technology more accessible to a wider audience and allowing users to familiarise themselves with its capabilities.

Since ChatGPT launched in late 2022, the chatbot has rapidly gained popularity, becoming one of the fastest growing services in history. According to OpenAI, more than 100 million people from 185 countries use ChatGPT every week.

Previously, users had to create an OpenAI account to access ChatGPT. Now, however, users can interact with the chatbot without registration, but an account is still required to save chat history, messaging and voice conversations.

OpenAI said it has introduced additional content protection measures to ensure safety when using ChatGPT without an account, including blocking prompts in a wider range of categories. Users can also still opt out of having their ChatGPT activity used to train the company's artificial intelligence models.

Meanwhile, other OpenAI products, such as the recently announced Voice Engine AI voice cloning service and Sora video creation platform, remain available only to a limited number of users and partners and are not included in the list of OpenAI account benefits.
