Blumhouse and Lionsgate are teaming up to reboot horror film 'Blair Witch Project'

After working together on Imaginary, Lionsgate and Blumhouse are joining forces again, this time to develop and direct a new version of The Blair Witch Project. Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate's Film Group, and Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, made the announcement at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Here's What We Know

The original 1999 film "Blair Witch Project" was a worldwide blockbuster, earning $248 million at the box office. It spawned two sequels and became a cultural phenomenon in the found footage genre.

The film was shot on handheld video cameras and follows a group of young people as they travel through the woods of Maryland in search of a mysterious legend. "Blair Witch Project" left such a vivid mark due to viewers trying to sort out which of the things shown were real and which were fiction.

At this point, virtually nothing is known about the reboot. Neither the director nor the cast has been named. In addition, the project has been described as a "new approach" to the franchise and it is not yet known if the reboot will be presented in a found footage format.
