Apple is reportedly planning to use TSMC's latest N2 manufacturing technology to create its A19 Pro mobile chips based on the 2nm process. This will give Apple a big advantage over its competitors as TSMC reports that the N2 process offers up to 30 per cent reduction in power consumption.

According to the latest information, Apple's A19 Pro will be the world's first chip manufactured at TSMC using the new 2nm process, with mass production starting in the second half of 2025. The main benefit of moving to an even smaller process, is increased power efficiency and improved speed due to the increased number of transistors in the chip. It is claimed that the N2 node will increase the number of transistors by 15 per cent while maintaining the same chip size as the N3E node with 3nm process technology.

Despite the higher number of transistors, a chip based on the 2nm process technology can deliver up to 30% lower power consumption while increasing performance by up to 15% compared to a 3nm chip.

With Apple continuing to differentiate the Pro version from the standard iPhone, it's safe to say that only the iPhone 17 Pro will get the new A19 Pro chip, while the iPhone 17 may use this year's A18 Pro chip on a 3nm process.

In addition to the A19 Pro, Apple's upcoming M chip, which is used in the iPad and MacBook tablets, is also expected to be made using the same advanced chip technology. However, it looks like the iPhone will primarily take advantage of this advantage.
