"Three laws of robotics": UK starts developing rules for AI

The United Kingdom has begun to develop regulations to govern artificial intelligence, focusing on the most powerful models.

Here's What We Know

According to people who wished to remain anonymous, representatives of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology are in the early stages of developing legislation to limit artificial intelligence. There is, of course, no draft law, and the British government will likely wait until France hosts an AI conference in the coming months to start consultations.

Last year, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hosted the first summit of world leaders on artificial intelligence and has repeatedly stated that countries should not "rush to regulate" artificial intelligence.

The world has already begun to restrict the technology: earlier this year, the EU passed a sweeping law regulating AI, and companies in China need permits before providing services. Some cities and states in the US have also passed laws restricting the use of AI in certain areas.
