The doors of 221B Baker Street will be open again: 'Sherlock' may even return to the big screens, but with one condition

The co-creator of one of the BBC's most popular series, Mark Gatiss, has discussed the likelihood of "Sherlock" returning with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in full metre format.

With the last episode, "The Final Problem," featuring Sherlock and John whitewashing their reputations, and subsequent footage giving viewers a glimpse into the future where the duo take on new cases and get back to work, it's not hard to imagine that a "Sherlock" sequel is a possibility.

Despite the fact that the series created by Gatiss and his Doctor Who colleague Steven Moffat ended almost seven years ago, Gatiss has confirmed that he is interested in the possibility of making a film based on "Sherlock."

Admittedly, this can only happen on the condition that Cumberbatch and Freeman return to their roles:

"You’ll have to ask Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman]. We’d like to make a film but trying to get everyone together is very difficult."

The actors themselves have not yet commented on the matter. And while Cumberbatch's involvement in the upcoming "Avengers: Secret Wars" could certainly complicate things, there's a chance that both actors would be willing to return as soon as they clear their schedules.
