Apple is in talks with OpenAI about the possibility of using the startup's artificial intelligence technology in some of the features coming to the iPhone later this year. This is reported by authoritative journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Here's What We Know

According to sources, Apple is considering implementing ChatGPT in iOS 18 to create an artificial intelligence chatbot for its smartphones. An alternative would be to partner with Google and utilise its Gemini AI model.

Apple is expected to unveil a host of new generative AI features for the iPhone at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference in June. In doing so, the tech giant is trying to keep up with its competitors in this area.

Apple's own AI developments are still lagging behind the market leaders. Its internal AI chatbot Apple GPT, according to employees, is inferior to ChatGPT and other advanced models. To speed things up, the company has even cancelled a number of other projects.

Partnering with OpenAI or Google will allow Apple to avoid possible mistakes when launching its AI product. At the same time, it will make it more dependent on competitors in this key technological area.

A contract with Apple would be a major advantage for OpenAI or Google, ensuring a dominant position in the artificial intelligence field.
