CEO of Embracer Freegroup: new games based on Tolkien's Middle-earth will soon appear
In a recent interview with GamesBeat, Lee Guinchard, CEO of Embrecer Freegroup, shed some light on some of the plans for projects based on the Tolkien universe.
Here's What We Know
At the end of April, Embracer Group split into three companies: Coffee Stain & Friends, Asmodee Group, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. Hinchard details his plans to build stronger relationships between the different organisations to foster better growth.
He also compared The Lord of the Rings franchise to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, drawing parallels with the different types of experiences that a vast amount of knowledge allows developers to create:
"Year on year, you can add and test things with something like Call of Duty. But it’s not a story. It’s not a narrative. You keep the stuff that is working".
The interview not only highlights past mistakes like Lord of the Rings: Gollum, but also emphasises the use of these experiences to improve future projects. In addition, it discusses Hinchard's involvement in the development of groundbreaking technology, such as an AI-based character aging generator, providing a glimpse into the future of the franchise.
