Serbia has cancelled a number of contracts with the Russian defence industry due to its inability to supply arms. This was announced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Milan Mojsilovic, in an interview with Novosti.

Here's What We Know

Mojsilovic noted that the supply of contracted Russian weapons is currently impossible, but Serbia is trying to resolve this issue through diplomatic means. Some contracts have been cancelled, while others have been postponed in the hope that the situation will improve.

This is likely to include Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, which Serbia planned to purchase additionally in 2021, as well as some Kornet anti-tank missile systems.

At the same time, according to the Chief of the General Staff, Serbia can continue to maintain and operate existing Soviet and Russian-made weapons, which are widely used around the world.

Serbia is actively purchasing Soviet and Russian weapons. In September 2024, it was reported that the Mi-35PN attack helicopters purchased from Cyprus were put on combat duty after being overhauled by UTVA.

In addition, in early 2024, the Serbian Ministry of Defence decided to purchase 26 BTR-80A armoured personnel carriers, which were transferred to Hungary by Russia in 1996-1999 as part of the compensation for the Soviet-era state debt.
