China's BAW has cloned the Land Rover Defender and is selling it for the equivalent of 14,000 euros

BAW has launched a new iteration of its 212 SUV, a vehicle that looks like the child of the classic Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 that grew up alongside the Jeep Wrangler or Mercedes G-Class.
Here's What We Know
The 2025 model year BAW 212 has all the attributes of a full-fledged off-road vehicle. This is a plug-in all-wheel drive, reduction gearing and even front and rear differential locks. In addition, the vehicle has amazing entry and exit angles: 40 degrees at the front and 36 degrees at the rear.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 150bhp (maximum torque undisclosed) coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The type of transmission is not specified, but it is unlikely that it is something that is not a classic "automatic" with torque converter.

The interior of the car features a steering wheel truncated from below and a large touchscreen in the centre of the front panel. Below the screen is a scattering of physical keys and switches, and even lower is a compact transmission selector of original shape.
In China, prices for the BAW 212 start at the equivalent of €14,000. About the same as the Dacia Sandero in Europe.
