Sega may bring back Ecco the Dolphin: new trademarks hint at revival of classic

Sega has registered new trademarks for "Ecco the Dolphin" and "Ecco", which may indicate the return of this iconic video game series. They were registered in Japan on 27 December 2024 and became known only recently.

Here's What We Know

Ecco the Dolphin was first released in 1992 on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and tells the story of the adventures of Ecco the Dolphin, who tries to find his pod after being separated from it.

The developer Novotrade International has released several sequels, including Ecco: The Tides of Time in 1994 and Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future in 2000 for the Dreamcast. The last game in the series was cancelled in 2001, and since then, the franchise has remained in oblivion.

However, maybe now everything will change and we will see new games in the series?

SEGA filed trademarks for "Ecco the Dolphin" and "Ecco" on 27 December in Japan, which were made public today.
