Nvidia's recently released RTX 5090 series of GPUs have generated a lot of interest, but not all users are happy. The new GPUs are packed with AI-based features such as DLSS 4 and Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) that promise to take gaming graphics to the next level. However, if you remove these technologies, the performance gains over the RTX 4090 are not as significant.

Here's What We Know

Tests of a special version of the RTX 5090D, developed for the Chinese market, showed that the performance gain is about 20% compared to the RTX 4090. Without the use of DLSS and frame generation, the net performance remains at a level that many gamers are not very happy about. When DLSS 4 and MFG are enabled, the RTX 5090D achieves the performance levels promised by Nvidia, which is really impressive. However, the reliance on artificial intelligence features to improve performance raises questions for some users.

The tests also showed that the RTX 5090D was overclocked to 2600 MHz, but this required lowering the memory frequency, which reduced its bandwidth to 896 GB/s. In comparison, the RTX 4090 was overclocked to 2610MHz with a memory bandwidth of 912GB/s. Thus, the performance difference between these models is negligible.
