Over the past few months, rumours have been circulating about a new iPhone 17 model, which Apple may introduce as the iPhone 17 "Air". This device is likely to replace the iPhone 17 Plus and will be available alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Here's What We Know

The iPhone 17 Air promises to be extremely thin, although there are different assumptions about its thickness. Some sources point to 6 mm. Recently, a reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that it is about 5.5 mm thick.

The iPhone 6 became the thinnest iPhone when it was released in 2014 with a thickness of 6.9 mm. However, the iPhone 17 Air, at 5.5mm, will be even thinner than the iPhone 6 and will be the thinnest iPhone ever.

The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro is 5.1 mm thick, making it Apple's thinnest device yet. If the iPhone 17 Air is 5.5 mm thick, it will be very close to this figure.

Apple hopes that such an extremely thin design will attract more attention than the iPhone mini and iPhone Plus models, which were not as popular as the standard and Pro models. The iPhone 17 Air is supposed to be a mid-range model with a 6.6-inch display and an A19 chip, which will not be as fast as the A19 Pro chip for the iPhone 17 Pro models.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a single 48-megapixel camera, as space constraints do not allow for more sensors. It will also use an Apple modem, but without support for the fastest 5G speeds.

The iPhone 17 Air, along with the rest of the iPhone 17 series, is expected to be launched in September 2025.
