Donald Trump announced the launch of a new memcoin, $TRUMP, based on the Solana blockchain, via his X and Truth Social accounts.

Here's What We Know

The posts appeared just days before his inauguration, which led some users to suspect that the accounts may have been hacked. However, experts have pointed out potential red flags, including the fact that millions of dollars from Binance and Gate - two exchanges that don't cater to U.S. customers - were invested in the project. Sources close to the Trump family also confirmed the veracity of the announcements. The $TRUMP memcoin project is attributed to the same group behind Trump's NFT.

The launch of memcoin comes as no surprise given his previous initiatives in cryptocurrencies and NFT. Trump has assembled a team focused on cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence, led by "crypto czar" David Sacks. Trump also plans to issue an executive order calling cryptocurrency a "national imperative or priority" after his inauguration next week.
