Rumour: Mitsubishi is preparing an electric crossover for 2026

According to Automotive News, Mitsubishi plans to launch a new electric crossover in 2026. This battery-electric vehicle will be built on the AmpR Medium platform (formerly known as CMF-EV), a collaboration with Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech.
Here's What We Know
Mitsubishi's new electric crossover is expected to be related to the upcoming Nissan model that will replace the Leaf, and will feature a coupe-like design with a sloping roofline. The new Nissan model will arrive first, in late 2025, with Mitsubishi's related electric car debuting next year.

Mitsubishi EV production will take place in Japan, with exports to global markets including the US. This will be Mitsubishi's second attempt to enter the electric vehicle market in the US, following the i-MiEV miniaturised model that was sold from 2011 to 2016.
The move is part of Mitsubishi's strategy to electrify its model range, which aims for 50 per cent of sales to be electric or electrified vehicles by 2030, rising to 100 per cent by 2035. The company plans to launch nine new electrified models by 2028, including two all-electric vehicles on joint Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance platforms, its own two-row electric SUV and an electric pick-up truck.
It's worth noting that these plans may be adjusted due to a possible merger between Nissan and Honda, which Mitsubishi is considering abandoning for fear of losing influence in the new union. Regardless, Mitsubishi intends to continue to work with Nissan to share platforms and technologies.
