Chinese company Huawei has revealed information about XHUD-AR - the new generation of augmented reality projection display. The novelty has received significant improvements in stability, accuracy and integration with the real world.

What is known

The first generation of AR-HUD debuted back in 2021 at the IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich. Back then, the company presented a 70-inch virtual screen that "hung" 7.5 metres in front of the driver. This allowed information to be received directly above the road, without the need to be distracted by the dashboard.

The updated version of XHUD-AR received several important improvements:

  • Real-time image correction thanks to a trajectory prediction algorithm
  • Filtering out more than 95% of AR element vibrations caused by road irregularities
  • Pedestrian and vehicle illumination
  • Blind spot, exit, braking and obstacle warnings
  • Adaptation to night driving
  • Huawei claims that the new display shows real-time navigation system cues and AR markings on the road always correspond exactly to physical landmarks.

Huawei currently supplies its augmented reality projection displays to a wide range of Chinese automakers, including SAIC, BAIC, Seres, Changan, Chery, BYD and JAC. We can expect XHUD-AR to appear in new models of the said companies and brands very soon.
