The development team of the Classic Offensive mod, which aimed to recreate the Counter-Strike 1.6 experience on the CS:GO engine, faced a refusal from Valve to place their project on Steam. After eight years of development, in January 2025, their mod Valve has not given the green light to the Classic Offensive project, which was supposed to revive Counter-Strike 1.6

Here's What We Know

The developers submitted their mod for review in October 2024, but did not receive a response within the usual processing time of three to five business days. In January 2025, the team released a statement saying that Valve had "removed their app" without any explanation. This was a heavy blow to the team, which had been working on the project for eight years.

Despite the initial rejection, the Classic Offensive team did not give up. In March 2025, they reported that Valve had reached out to them, expressing concerns about the mod's possible violation of Steam rules and the Steam Agreement. In response, the developers are conducting an audit of their project to identify and correct potential inconsistencies.

Although the Classic Offensive mod has not yet returned to life, recent developments indicate that the issue may be resolved and potentially released in the future. The team continues to work on the project's compliance with Valve's rules, hoping for a positive outcome.
